On the May Long weekend we traveled with friends to Winthrop, Washington. It is close to the same travel time as a trip to Kelowna and the scenery is much more spectacular. You travel through Cascade National Park where you could spend a week exploring its beauty. Washington sure knows how to maintain their parks! Winthrop is located in the Methow Valley just after the Cascades. There is an endless amount of activities to do there for all ages. We were only there for 3 nights but we were able to fit in a hike up to an old rangers station, fishing and swimming at one of the many lakes & some biking. The biking trails are perfect for young families so if we had more time we would have spent days biking the area. The Methow river runs through Winthrop and in the late summer it is a place to cool off. The town itself, is like an old pioneer town with many nice eateries and shops. The candy store had many unique chocolate specialties. The bacon dipped in chocolate was actually good!
Our friends stayed at the Rolling Huts last year and recommend them!
My husband, Mike, and I are part of a wine club with his childhood friends. To celebrate their 40th milestone birthdays we traveled to the South of France together and indulged in good wine, food and company. We all spent a week together in a gascon farmhouse just outside of Toulouse and did day trips from there. Here, I show some of the remarkable buildings in some very small towns.
